Mathematics Faculty Homepage

Welcome to the Mathematics faculty. The staff are committed to quality teaching. Students in Year 7 participate in the middle school initiative where they are taught Mathematics and Science by the same teacher. This allows teachers to integrate student learning across the curriculum.

In Years 9 and 10, students follow different pathways in mathematics. These are called 5.3, 5.2, 5.1.

Senior students can choose from the following courses; General Mathematics, Mathematics, Mathematics Extension 1 & 2

Year 10 students attended the StartSmart Forum which was offered by the Commonwealth Bank Foundation. The presenter, Casey, engaged the students in an interactive way and delivered some great insight into financial matters which will affect their future. This forum was a mathematics faculty initiative and staff and students enjoyed the presentation.

The Maths faculty is keen to share information with parents. Mr. Betsis, Head Teacher Mathematics organised an evening workshop to show parents some of the work happening in mathematics classrooms. In the photo on the left above, Mr. Betsis is showing parents how to construct their maths puzzle. Two proud parents who attended the Maths Workshop show off their finished work in the photo on the right above.

Check the Summit Times for other opportunities to hear more about what is happening in mathematics classrooms.

On the right, you can see how much fun the StartSmart Forum was. The students pictured were given different types of jobs; casual, part-time and full-time. Then, they were asked to assess their entitlements to pay, sick leave and holidays.
